Greg Wood was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1976. For the last 10 years he has been prolifically and patiently dedicated to depicting the landscape. Within his large-scale paintings there is very little or no evidence of human inhabitancy to be found. Rather Wood creates minimalist though complex compositions that are highly suggestive of movement and change within nature itself. This is usually represented by what lies above the surface of the earth in the emotive skies. Wood's paintings are not media interactive or interested in identity politics, they are landscape paintings (in the true sense of the word) that render often everyday and undiscerning scenes sublime.Greg Wood works in the space he depicts, painting directly onto the canvas or later painting from his sketches. He lived and studied Fine Art in Tasmania before returning to Melbourne to continue his art practice. He has recently travelled on field trips to North Vietnam in 2003 and the east coast of Scotland in 2006. Wood’s last solo exhibition was at Australian Galleries, Melbourne in 2007. He exhibited in Art Sydney 2005 and Art Melbourne in 2004, 2005 & 2006. Wood was also recently short-listed for the Fleurieu Peninsula Biennale Art Prize, South Australia. ©GREG WOOD 2008 |
